Summer 2010
Dear Friends,
Summer is a time when children are out of school and families try to take vacations; with the tough economy many people are staying closer to home so this is an excellent time to learn more about our local history and take advantage of the many opportunities for relaxation and recreation within a reasonable radius of our community. With the warmer weather we also need to be mindful of the on-going drought and take steps to conserve water whenever possible.
We have just approved a balanced budget for fiscal year 07/01/2010-2011. The lingering effects of the economic recession along with the State of California's budgetary problems made this a serious challenge as we needed to make reductions while trying to provide you with all of the essential services.
Our Fire Station #4 in the Colonies and the new Animal Services Facility at Memorial Park are both now open and in full operation. The rehabilitation of our original Fire Station next to the Carnegie Community Building is progressing well and should be open before the end of the year.
Most of us have heard about the FBI/IRS investigation; while this is very disturbing I want to reassure you that we have no reason to believe this involves any of the City of Upland employees. We are providing full cooperation and will continue to operate in an ethical and open manner. It appears they are looking into potential wrong doing by our Mayor and certain business establishments in Upland. If and when any charges are filed we will deal with them in an appropriate manner.
With the Primary Election completed we will begin to focus on the important General Election this November. For the Upland City Council, my term is up along with Brendan Brandt and Ray Musser. At this point all three of us are running and supporting each other for re-election. It is important to note that none of us are implicated in the FBI/IRS investigation and we all have a history of proper behavior in all areas of our City Council activities. I believe we all have a lot to offer our community and ask for your support in my re-election campaign.
